Making the Film
We have deliberately chosen urgent conditions where conventional medicine can offer little or no help, hence first in the series: Saving a Lost Generation - the ‘pandemic’ of Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
We are set to run a pilot study of the protocol in a school for children with autism. Everything is in place except the funding!
ASD currently affects 1 in 100 children in the US and Europe and according to recent research from Cambridge University (UK) the rate may be as high as 1 in 56 children with 1 in 38 boys affected. Neither the cause of, nor a cure for ASD is clear, and a huge and expensive support ‘industry’ is needed to enable parents to cope. A significant proportion of the next generation may never be able to live independent lives. It will affect everyone of us.
In this context, homeopaths in clinics across the UK, the USA and Australia are quietly getting on with their work. Using a protocol of homeopathic medicine and dietary changes a significant number of families are getting their lost children back.
Given the paucity of options available for these families, we owe it to this generation of children and their parents to bring this protocol to the public’s attention, and to demand that the potential of this approach be thoroughly investigated by a clinical trial.
CHALLENGES :
- Parents have been reluctant to film their children’s struggle prior to treatment, so the film lacks good ‘before’ footage of the children filmed so far. A number of families we approached declined to be filmed because since having homeopathic treatment their children are no longer considered to be within the parameters of an ASD diagnosis and the stigma in the educational field makes them afraid to reveal that their children ever had a problem!
- Complementary medicine and homeopathy in particular is under increasing pressure to ‘prove’ itself efficacious. The critics call for scientific evidence and assert that the homeopathic community contents itself with anecdotal evidence. There have been more than a hundred clinical trials into the efficacy of homeopathy, many of them more stringent than trials accepted as evidence for conventional medications or procedures, and homeopathy has been shown to be much more than placebo - so evidence per se is not the issue. That said - this film will raise awareness of the urgent need for a pilot study investigating the potential of homeopathy to address challenges like ASD.
